SwimSafer Stage 4 Bronze
Development of your child’s stroke technique will be a focus here, along with coordinated breathing in deep water while swimming 100 metres. Principles of water craft safety will be introduced, as well as continual work on rescue and personal water survival skills.
What you will learn
Entries & Exits
Enter water using a compact jump
Sculling & Body Orientation
Demonstrate a forward somersault in the water.
Scull, float or tread water for 2 minutes (incorporated in Survival & Activity Skills)
Underwater Skills
In at least 1.4m deep water, perform feet-first surface dive, swim through hoops on pool bottom for 2m
Movement/Swimming/Strokes
Swim 115 metres continuously
25 metres Front Crawl
25 metres Breaststroke
25 metres Backstroke
25 metres Survival Backstroke
15 metres Sidestroke
Survival & Activity skills
Scull, float or tread water for 2 minutes
Dressed in swimwear, shorts and t-shirt demonstrate:
1. 3 minutes swimming slowly using survival backstroke, sidestroke and breaststroke, changing each minute
2. Wave and call for help intermittently
3. Swim to a flotation aid and kick to pool’s edge, then climb out of water
Rescue Skills
Throw a floatation aid to a partner 2m away and instruct the partner to kick to the edge

Swim 100m continuously (in this order):
25m Front-Crawl
25m Backstroke
25m Breaststroke
25m Survival Backstroke
Survival Sequence Bronze A (w/o goggles)
Enter the water using compact ump (in deep water), resurface, then perform a forward somersault
Scull, float or tread water for 2 min
In at least 1.4m deep water, perform fee-first surface dive
Swim through hoops on pool bottom for 2m
Resurface and exit pool safely
Survival Sequence Bronze B (w/o goggles)
Dressed in swimwear, shorts and t-shirt demonstrate:
3 min swimming slowly using survival backstroke, side stroke, survival breaststroke, for 1 min per stroke
Wave for help (rescuer to throw flotation aid)
Swim to a flotation aid and kick to pool’s edge, then climb out of water
